Pesticide contamination on golf course: Florida DEP position

Florida does not have statewide soil standards; however, when cleanup is required as a result of a spill or dumping of a chemical onto the ground, Soil Cleanup Target Levels(SCTLs) are used by the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection to determine when cleanup is complete.  The Central District of DEP just posted the following relating to a golf course property where adjacent residential property owners are expressing concern about the offsite migration from the golf course of the pesticide Dieldrin.  (In the past, it was common construction practice to use Dieldrin as a subsurface slab treatment.)

"The DEP does not generally enforce Direct Exposure-based SCTLs when a pesticide is present as a result of proper use of a product. The Leachability-based SCTLs may be enforceable if dumping, spilling, or misapplying a pesticide can be linked to groundwater contamination.”

U.S. News & World Report Names RyanLaw As a U.S. and Orlando Florida “Best Law Firm” for Litigation- Environmental

November 1, 2001 – U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers®, publisher of the international business news magazine U.S. News and World Report, in its just-released annual ranking of U.S. law firms, has awarded RyanLaw its coveted “First-Tier” ranking as one of its 41 highest-ranked  Litigation-Environmental law firms in the United States.

RyanLaw was one of only two law firms in Orlando, nine firms with offices located in Florida, and Forty one law firms nationally to receive First-Tier rankings for Litigation-Environmental.  RyanLaw was awarded a First-Tier ranking on both the National and Orlando Metropolitan lists.  RyanLaw’s “high ranking is a special distinction that signals a unique combination of excellence and breadth of expertise.” U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers® Release, Washington D.C. –November 1, 2011.

The U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” rankings provide a view of the U.S. legal profession that is unprecedented both in the range of firms represented and in the range of qualitative and quantitative data used to develop the rankings.  The rigorous evaluation process included the collection of client and attorney evaluations, including peer review from leading attorneys in their practice area.   The rankings incorporated nearly 4 million evaluations collected by Best Lawyers in its most recent annual survey.   All of the quantitative and qualitative data was combined into an overall “Best Law Firms” score for each firm.  This data was then compared to other law firms within the same metropolitan area and at the national level.  The First-Tier includes those law firms that scored within a certain percentage of the highest scoring law firms across the nation.    “By combining hard data with peer reviews, and client assessments, we continue to believe we are providing clients with the most thorough, accurate, and helpful rankings of law firms ever developed.”  Steven Naifeh, President of Best Lawyers.

RyanLaw is an “AV-Rated” law firm offering environmental, employment, and litigation services, and is located in the metropolitan Orlando area, serving clients across Florida.
